Low Carb Calories – Importance of Calorie Counting

Posted on 05 August 2009 by Tony

It has been a debate that has gone on for years; which is the best diet “low carb” or “low calorie”? There will probably never be a definitive answer as both diets have their benefits and floors. You will almost certainly lose at least some weight by either diet. But one thing both have in common is that you must know how to count your low carb calories.

You’ll need to know how many calories you are eating every day and how many are carbs, proteins and fats. You’ll need to know how many calories you are burning off through exercise too. This is because if you can closely work out how many you are burning off and how many you are consuming, it should be easy to work out whether you need to be eating less, working out more or both.

Losing weight is really about consuming less calories than your are burning off. That way you know that you are losing stored energy, which is in the form of fat. That is weight loss in a nutshell. It’s not complicated at all. So knowing your numbers and low carb calories is more important than ever.

If you are following a diet such as the Atkins diet, then you will already know how many carbs you are eating each day. This means you can work out how many calories you are eating too. So now all you have to do is start exercising and burning off more than this amount of calories.

Whether you do follow a low calorie diet or a low carb diet, just remember that the simple formula is to burn off more than you are consuming. Sounds so simple and in truth it really is. You really need to know your numbers and work out your low carb calories.
